Method for design and evaluation of ICE exhaust silencers

The noise levels generated by an unmuffled engine exhaust system can be identified as the loudest vehicle source. muffler or silencer is essential component of internal combustion system. Its main function to reduce exhaust-generated acceptably low level. design development a complex process affecting efficiency and thus fuel consumption, emissions overall generation. This paper focuses on for single-cylinder application. A 1D GT-Power model single valve was developed. Additionally, analytical preliminary methodology introduced. provides guidelines grade selection, sizing different components, calculation backpressure gas flow rate.
